Temple Women Streaking Toward Postseason

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- There is a lot of talk these days, and rightfully so, about how hot the Temple men's basketball team is.  That overtime win over La Salle on Wednesday night was their 11th victory in a row.  However, that's not even the longest current winning streak by a basketball team on campus.  The Temple women's squad has won twelve straight as they get ready to visit La Salle in their regular season finale Saturday afternoon.

Overall, Temple sits at 19-8.  They are 12-1 in the Atlantic 10 and they have clinched the #2 seed in the upcoming conference tournament.  Head coach Tonya Cardoza says everything has come together for her squad during this streak.

"We're getting contributions from different guys now that we weren't getting early in the season.  The emergence of Victoria Macaulay and BJ Williams  - Vic, her presence has been on both ends of the floor.  She's been able to score a lot more for us and rebound the ball.  I think Kristen (McCarthy) is playing much better basketball as well.  I  think we just have nice little momentum going.  We get good contributions off our bench.  It's the best time to be playing really good basketball for us."

Cardoza says her sqaud will need to play very well to extend the winning streak to 13 against the Explorers.

"La Salle's a really good team.  (Head coach) Jeff (Williams) has done a great job in the two years that he has been there.   They're a good, pressure, defensive team.  They like to extend it and get out and try to create easy opportunities for themselves.  They're a lot smaller so they pose match-up problems for us because we like to play two bigs.  But it's going to be a really good game."

Temple and La Salle will tip-off at 1:00pm on Saturday.
