Jay Lloyd's Getaway: Finally, Some Real Ski Weather

By Jay Lloyd

BLAKESLEE, Pa. (CBS) -- Skiers' and snowboarders' luck is improving for the upcoming President's Day weekend.

But the mercury is sinking back toward typical winter temperatures, and that has seen snow guns hammering away throughout the Poconos.

From Jack Frost in the west to Shawnee in the east, virtually all trails and slopes are open, and accommodations are still available.

It's the last hurrah of the winter season for grabbing a long weekend with the kids out of school -- unless a few snow days happen along in March.

But here are a few tips for ski resorting on holiday weekends...

If you need equipment rentals, prepare to have a lot of company.  Arrive early or rent off-mountain. And rent for the entire weekend to avoid repeating the process every day.

Restaurants will also see a surge. If possible, make reservations before heading for the mountains.

Here's to cold nights and sunny days!
