Suspect Arrested In Copper Wire Theft In Delaware

MILLSBORO, Del. (CBS) – Police in Delaware arrested one suspect and are searching for another in connection with the theft of copper wire early Tuesday morning.

Christopher L. Kemp, 32, was arrested at about 1:30 a.m. at the Delmarva Power Storage Yard on East DuPont Boulevard in Millsboro, Delaware.

According to authorities, Delaware State Troopers were called to the storage yard after an alarm was set off.

Upon their arrival, two suspects were spotted inside the fence line of the yard. One of the suspects was able to flee and avoid being captured. Kemp was found by troopers behind a large spool of wire and was placed in custody.

Kemp's vehicle was also located in the storage yard, which contained a pair of bolt cutters that were stolen the previous night when the fence line was damaged and copper wire was removed. The vehicle also contained several rolls of copper wire, which is estimated to be worth over $1,500.

Kemp has been charged with Theft, Attempted Theft, Possession of Burglar Tools, Conspiracy 2nd (2 counts), Criminal Mischief and Criminal Trespass 2nd (2 counts).

He was arraigned and released on $2,500 secured bond.
