Some Valentine's Day Gifts You May Want To Avoid

By Jim Melwert

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Still looking for the perfect Valetine's Day gift? You're running out of time.

Most people are going the safe, flowers-and-chocolates route -- maybe planning a nice, quiet dinner for two.

"And I'm anticipating flowers. Fingers crossed."

But for those trying to avoid the flowers and candies route, there are some presents you might want to skip.

Tasha Drew from South Philadelphia shares one of her more memorable Valentine's Day gifts, "One of those gasoline station bears that smells like gasoline, so not really that good of a gift."

"I got a blender once," said one not-so-thrilled woman. "Household appliance? Not what I was anticipating. Useful, not too romantic, but you know it makes a good pina colada."

Jeff Banks from Germantown says, one year, he got a bit of a twist. "A girl gave me a dozen roses. I didn't know how to accept it.  I was like, 'Men don't accept roses.' She said, 'A real man would.'"

If you're sending a gift to the office for your sweetie, a survey from employment website GlassDoor.com finds flowers the number one preferred gift. The worst gift: A singing telegram.
