It's Day Two Of The Manayunk On Ice Competition

By Mike Dougherty

MANAYUNK (CBS) - Main Street in Manayunk was lined with ice this afternoon, though it had nothing to do with this recent blast from Old Man Winter.

It's the 2nd annual "Manayunk On Ice" competition. More than a dozen professional ice sculptures are competing for a couple thousand bucks in prize money.

"It's going to be a heart with two kissing fish and two butterflies on top," sculptor Andrew LoFurno says.

It's a family affair for the LoFurnos. Andrew's brother Eric and father Robert are also competing. Must have something to do with all those sweet power tools.

"For large pieces, we take off with a chainsaw. We have an array of different styles of bits that take away different designs."

Andrew's work sure left an impression on Jane as she walked past his stand.

"It's quite amazing seeing all the blocks of ice."

Dougherty: "How do you think they do that?"

"I have no idea. It looks really difficult."

Andrew says he is a full time student and just does the ice sculptures for fun with his brother and father... and the extra cash is nice, too.
