Police Search For 2nd Suspect Involved In Attempted Murder In Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) - Police in Wilmington have one suspect in custody and are looking for a second man involved in a shooting that occurred late Thursday night.

Police arrested 46-year-old Frank Diaz and an unidentified woman at a home in the 1100 block of Pleasant Street following a shooting that happened at 2nd and Vanburen streets a little after 11 p.m.

Authorities say the 21-year-old victim, who was exiting his vehicle, was chased into a La-Flor Food Market in the 1100 block of W. 2nd Street by Diaz and 23-year-old Luis Ortiz who were reportedly armed with a .22 caliber pistol and a .44 caliber rifle.

Police say the suspects fired numerous shots at the victim as he fled through the store and out the back door. The victim ran down Vanburen Street as the suspects continued to open fire. A short while later, police say the suspects, who had a female with them, opened fire on the victim's vehicle before fleeing west on 2nd Street in another car.

The victim sustained gunshot wounds to his upper thigh area and is in stable condition, police said.

Detectives executed a search warrant with the assistance of SWAT at the Pleasant Street home and after making the arrests, detectives recovered the rifle believed to have been used in this incident.

Diaz is charged with Attempted Murder, Conspiracy, Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony, and Reckless Endangering. Detectives are continuing to investigate and have not charged the female at this point.
