Del. Governor Helps Constitution Center Unveil Events Marking 225th Anniversary Fête

By Mike DeNardo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The United States Constitution turns 225 this year, and the National Constitution Center, on Independence Mall, has lined up a year's worth of events to mark the anniversary.

History students know that Delaware was the first state to ratify the Constitution.  Current Delaware governor Jack Markell was on hand today at the Constitution Center to run down the events in 2012 commemorating the document that was born in 1787.

"If you think about the importance of that document by those founders of our country and how important that was back then and how important it continues to be, it really is something to celebrate," the governor said.

The yearlong celebration will include an online citizen video contest, live webchat events for students, interactive election year programs, and an ad campaign with the center's new slogan, "Freedom is Calling."
