Home Video Report: Old and New to Greet the New Year

There's quite a mix in this week's video offerings.
Contagion is the recent Steven Soderbergh globetrotting thriller about a pandemic that spares no one, including Gwyneth Paltrow.
Don't Be Afraid of The Dark is a gothic potboiler from 2010 starring Katie Holmes.
"Mildred Pierce" is the Emmy-winning HBO mini-series starring Kate Winslet and Guy Pearce, now available in a two-disk set.
Recently released on Blu-ray is the 1986 pop classic Sid and Nancy, certainly one of the most haunting love stories you'll ever see. It traces the brief rise and fall of the punk band led by Sid Vicious and his tragic relationship with his American girlfriend.
And, going way back, you can find some stars making TV appearances early in their careers. Season five of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" is out -- 35 episodes on five disks -- featuring such stars as Walter Matthau, Steve McQueen, Peter Lorre, Dick Van Dyke, and Burt Reynolds, among others.
