Google's Top Ten Searches For 2011

By Kim Glovas

Philadelphia (CBS) – Google released its list of top ten searches for 2011 earlier this week.

It's called the Google Zeitgeist, in German it means "Spirit of the times". John Wiley is the lead designer for Google Search.

"What we're trying to find the fast rising search terms. These are the things that typified, or were the hot items in 2011."

The number one search was Rebecca Black. Who?

"In 2010, no one had heard of Rebecca Black. And in 2011, she revealed her music video to the world on the internet and it became a viral hit."

Teens know who she is.

"She's like that singer with "Friday" and she's all bad, and can't sing and got famous overnight."

Other people in the US top ten: Jackass star Ryan Dunn's death and Casey Anthony who was charged with killing her two-year-old daughter, but was found not guilty by a jury.
