Ambler Theater Reaching Out To Community For Critical Donations
By Michelle Durham
AMBLER, Pa. (CBS) -- The Theater in Ambler Borough is asking for help from the public.
The small community theater needs to raise a tremendous amount of money to keep up with the ever changing movie industry.
"The movie industry is in the process of converting to digital cinema. We show films currently on 35 millimeter film. Within the next year or two, all movies are going to be available only on digital format," explains Executive Director of the County and Ambler Theaters John Toner.
This means a complete change of equipment. Ambler has three screens, and each individual theater is $100,000.
"We are turning to our members and our patrons. We're hoping they'll help us by making contributions to our non-profit, tax deductible corporation."
But Toner is also hoping that other members of the Ambler, Lower Gwynedd and Whitpain Communities who enjoy the theater will also contribute--especially since state or federal grant money for this enterprise is hard to come by at this time.
