Medford, NJ Mayor Chris Myers Resigns Amid Sex Allegations

By David Madden

MEDFORD, N.J. (CBS) -- Embattled Medford, New Jersey Mayor Chris Myers has resigned amid an alleged sex scandal involving his now former employer.

In October, allegations surfaced online involving a male prostitute that Myers allegedly encountered on a business trip for Lockheed-Martin to California, and the company placed him on leave.

Last week, he quit his Lockheed-Martin job, and on Monday night, he stepped down as mayor of Medford after a decade on Council.

In a letter, he cited what he called "work commitments."

Councilman Bob Martin takes over as mayor for the rest of this month.

"It's sad for him," Martin told KYW Newsradio this morning. "It's sad for his wife and children, and also for Medford."

But Martin believes the resignation allows the town to move on.

Myers, in his last public meeting a month ago, denied anything happened on that trip last year. At Lockheed, he had been a vice president for international business development and traveled frequently.
