Pennsylvania Driver's Licenses Getting New Anti-Fraud Feature

By Tony Romeo

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- As of today, it's going to get tougher to whip up a phony Pennsylvania driver's license or "official" ID card.

That's because a new feature is being added to Pennsylvania driver's licenses and photo IDs.  Pennsylvania Department of Transportation spokeswoman Jan McKnight says it will appear as a hologram about the size of a nickel over the two photos of you on your license or ID.

"It's a black keystone with a white 'PA' in the middle, within a white circle, that when you rotate the card reverses to just the opposite."

McKnight says that aspect of the hologram reversing from black-on-white to white-on-black will make it very easy, even in dim light, to be extra sure that the license or photo ID is authentic.

She says Pennsylvania is the first state in the nation to add this security feature.

It will be included on all new licenses and IDs issued, but if you want the new feature now you can apply online to have your license or ID reissued.
