City Council Rejects Real Estate Agents' Request For Special Parking Permits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Local real estate agents went before a city council committee, asking for a special parking permit, so they don't have to worry about getting tickets while showing homes.  The lawmakers refused.

Veteran real estate agent Mike McCann was among the realtors testifying before the council committee that showing homes means getting tickets from the ever-vigilant Parking Authority.

"I could take a buyer out for three hours and get two or three tickets. Its kind of discouraging.  It doesn't look good for us or the people we're taking around the city."

Rick Dickson of the Parking Authority said the agency opposes giving one particular business special parking privileges. "We think there are legitimate ways they can find to do their job.  Unfortunately sometimes paying for parking is the cost of doing business."

And a majority of the committee agreed, rejecting the proposal, and sending the real estate agents back to their meters.
