Thousands Of Dancers Compete In Irish Dance Competition In Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – About three thousand dancers mostly children are participating a weekend-long Mid-Atlantic Irish dance competition.

Those who qualify are one step closer to the world competition in Ireland next year.

Ten-year-old Mave Denardo was competing with her class mates from the Ryan Kilcoyne School of Irish Dance in Newtown.

"It's really fun and it really makes you feel good about your self when you do really well."

Anna O'Sullivan of New York is one of the founding members of the Irish Dance Teachers Association of North America.

"This is what is called qualifying for the world championships. Next year we are going to Belfast."

The annual dance competition is held in Philadelphia and sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic chapter of O'Sullivans the national group.
