Delaware Police Arrest Suspect In Attempted Carjacking

NEWARK, Del. (CBS) – New Castle County Police have arrested on man in connection with an attempted carjacking that happened on Wednesday.

Ronell Sims, a 28-year-old from Newark, was arrested after assaulting and attempting to carjack two tow truck drivers.

Around 1:35 a.m. on Wednesday, police responded to the unit block of Golden Acres Drive in the Riverview Place Apartment complex for a reported assault in progress.

Upon arrival, the officers were told that two tow truck drivers had been assaulted by Sims, who had been sitting on the back of their truck. The drivers had repeatedly asked him to move, but Sims refused.

When the victims approached Sims, he grabbed one of them by the neck and demanded the keys to the vehicle. A struggle ensued, and the victims were able to detain the perpetrator until police arrived.

Sims has been charged with Attempted Carjacking in the Second degree, Attempted Theft, Criminal Impersonation, Offensive Touching and Resisting Arrest.
