Troops Get A Surprise Thanksgiving Meal

CHERRY HILL, NJ (CBS) - More than 250 active duty service members from Fort Dix were treated to a surprise Thanksgiving meal in Cherry Hill.

"They didn't say this was going to happen! I'm still in shock right now!"

The troops boarded buses without being told where they were headed, so when they arrived here at a big banquet dinner, it was certainly a surprise.

"We got here and we were escorted by like 500 motorcycles and everybody was honking. It just makes it worthwhile."
Kuznits: "Why are you crying?"
"It's my first deployment! So all these people that care about us so much, that's a big deal!"

Marshall Spevak is one of the organizers of this event. He says it's the eighth year they've been doing this Thanksgiving dinner for the troops.

"We've been involved with the Jewish war veterans in Cherry Hill for at least ten years. This is kind of our pinnacle event of the year."

Kuznits: "How does this Thanksgiving compare to other Thanksgivings you've had?"
Spevak: "It's larger!"

"That's all we felt was love and it helps because we're not with our family, but they made us feel like family."
