Basketball: Villanova Welcomes Delaware to the Pavilion

VILLANOVA, Pa. (CBS) -- The Villanova Wildcats are off to a 2-0 start this season, and they will put that mark on the line tonight as they welcome the University of Delaware to the Pavilion.

The Wildcats beat up Monmouth, then held off La Salle in overtime, and head coach Jay Wright says his young group is making strides.

"We are a work in progress, like a lot of teams are this year. Sometimes you have a team that has a lot of veterans and you are ready to go early.  This team, we need every practice we can get, we need every game experience.  I am happy with where we are, but we have a long way to go," Wright tells KYW Newsradio.

Wright says that right now, he feels his team's play on defense is ahead of its play on offense.

"We've just got a lot of guys who haven't played together before.  And I think when we learn each other's strengths and weaknesses, just get a feel for where each other wants the ball and where guys get their shots, I think we have a chance to be a very good team."

Delaware lost its season opener to Radford, 58-54, but Wright says they will present problems tonight.

"They're big -- (junior forward Jamelle) Hagins and (junior forward Josh) Brinkley are very physical.  They bring in (senior forward Hakim) McCullar off the bench, they are a great rebounding team.  So they are going to be physical with us on the glass, (sophomore guard Devon) Saddler on the perimeter is going to be difficult to contain.  It's going to be a great challenge for us."

Villanova is 9-0 all time against the Blue Hens, including 8-0 on the Main Line.

Tipoff tonight at the Pavilion is set for 7:00pm.
