Villanova Visits UMass in Penultimate Game of 2011

VILLANOVA, Pa. (CBS) - The 2011 season has been a struggle for the Villanova Wildcats. They sit at 1-8 as they take to the road to visit UMass on Saturday.

Last weekend the Wildcats lost to Maine 41-25, but the 25 points represented Villanova's second highest total of the season and head coach Andy Talley was pleased to see his team move the football.

"We finally got it turned around," Talley says. "Nineteen first downs, 400 yards total offense.  (Freshman quarterback) Chris Polony threw three touchdown passes, Austin medley had 100 yards rushing.  So I'm starting to feel good about that, hopefully Chris can continue to improve and we can move the football in the running game as well."

The Minutemen are 5-3 and Talley says they are transitioning up to Division 1-A or FBS.

"UMass is on the way to the MAC, this is their last year in the CAA.  They moved up to 73 scholarships, we normally have 63 at our level.  So it's a big, physical team trying to get ready to play Division I.  The game does count for us in the conference standings, but not for UMass.  We know what they are going to do, they are going to try and run the ball right at us for sure."

Kickoff in Amherst, Massachusetts is set for 3:30pm.
