Wednesday's Child: Loretta

.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Loretta draws, dances, and sings in her church's choir.

(Audio of Loretta singing:)  "I love you, Lord, yeah, that's why my heart is filled with praise..."

This smiling 14-year-old is also an actress, appearing in plays at her high school.  She says she loves entertaining people but she doesn't want a career in funny business -- she wants to be a heart surgeon.

"I've watched Discovery Health channel and ER Emergencies, and I heard about not having a cure for certain heart diseases and cancer," she says.  "Anything's possible, so when I grew up I could possibly find a cure. That'd be great."

Which is why Gloria Hochman of the National Adoption Center in Philadelphia says Loretta needs a permanent family.

"She's 14 years old," Hochman says, "and at fourteen she still needs parents to guide her and to help her. And she would bring tremendous joy to any family that would consider adopting her."

Her social worker, Danielle Williams, says that as talented as Loretta is, she's modest to boot.

"Sometimes she downplays a lot of her accomplishments," Williams says. "I mean, she is a very hardworking young lady."
