Elderly Couple Violently Assaulted During Camden County Home Invasion

BERLIN, N.J. (CBS) – Police in a Camden County town are searching for a suspect who violently assaulted an elderly couple during a home invasion in September.

According to investigators, the suspect approached a home on Florence Avenue in Berlin Borough at about 3 p.m. on September 10th and asked an 81-year-old female living at the home for directions.

The female victim spoke briefly with the suspect, before he walked away. However, he later returned and initially asked for directions again before stating he was committing a robbery. He then pulled a ski mask over his face.

The female victim struggled with the suspect on her front porch while screaming for help. The suspect then threw the woman into her home and pulled out a gun.

During the assault, the suspect struck an 84-year-old male resident in the head, possibly with the butt of the gun, hard enough to draw blood. He then tied the elderly man up with neck ties.

After forcing the female victim to walk him through the house at gunpoint in search of valuables, the suspect took $188 in cash. He then tied up the female victim and fled the home.

The 84-year-old male victim has continued to require medical attention for his head injury and is being treated at a rehabilitation facility.

The suspect is described as an African-American male, 25 to 35 years old, 5'7" and weighing between 180 to 200 pounds. He was wearing a grey long-sleeved sweatshirt, dark baggy pants, gloves and a ski mask. The suspect fled in what appeared to be a black Mitsubishi Lancer, model dating from 2008 to 2011.
