Attorney Says Both Sides Should Accept Gag Order In Basement Of Horrors Trial

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Philadelphia DA's office is expected to argue in court today on their motion for an order to limit publicity in the basement dungeon case. A local defense attorney sees no reason why either side would object.

The basement dungeon case has attracted national attention for its alleged crimes and cruelty.

Four adults are charged with holding four mentally challenged adults hostage in a Tacony basement in deplorable conditions to pocket their social security checks. Children were also held and abused in another location.

Attorney Richard Hark says the risk of tainting this case needs to be addressed.

"Neither party wants to be perceived as getting an advantage in the newspaper and news media of Philadelphia on such a sensational case at the expense of anybody's rights."

A defense attorney for one of the accused objects to the gag order. George Yacoubian says it's more about the police having problems with the media.
