Asian American Film Festival Opens For 4th Year in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The fourth annual Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival runs through next Tuesday.

Brad Baldia (below), with the Philly Asian Film Festival, says Asian actors face numerous challenges.

"Having too many stereotypes, whether it's the Asian 'nerd' or the exotic female," he says.

That's why he loves this film festival:

"What I enjoy about the Asian American Film Festival, it just blows away those stereotypes and says, 'Here we are, we can be all this and much more,' and I just really appreciate that diversity."

And in Philadelphia, Baldia says, there's a lot of diversity among the Asian community.

"There's actually 57 distinct Asian ethnic groups," Baldia says.  "The Asian population of Greater Philadelphia is about five percent."

He says the films in this year's festival cover everything from break-dancing to marriage.   For a complete list of showings go to www.phillyasianfilmfest.org.
