Local Businesses Asked To Participate In Fundraiser To Support Marines Abroad

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) - The founder and president of a Montgomery County-based organization that supports members of the military overseas is issuing a challenge to area businesses to help support the cause.

Patty Lewis of America 4R Marines wants businesses, restaurants, and bars in the Delaware Valley to think like Marines. On short notice, she wants them to create a plan of attack and come up with a fundraising event during the Marine Corps' birthday weekend of November 10th through the 13th and then execute it.

"And the money will all go towards our Merry Christmas mission where we send Christmas and Hanukkah to our Marines in Afghanistan. That's a huge $500,000 mission."

During the holidays, the organization sends the troops small tactical gear and other items they need while they are deployed in remote areas of operation. The Marine Corps was born in Philadelphia in November of 1775. Information on the challenge is on their website www.America4RMarines.org
