Inexpensive Way To Share Playtime With Your Cat

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Playtime is an important activity in the life of your feline. Not only does it provide a healthy dose of physical exercise that may be overlooked (since most indoor cats don't get enough exercise) but certainly needed on a daily basis, but it also provides mental stimulation that's just as important to their overall well-being.

But first, clear any objects out of the room that may injure your cat. Also, any toy or object small enough to be swallowed must be avoided.

Here are a few inexpensive ways to share playtime with your cat with household items.

Take a long piece of yarn, ribbon or string or shoelace and pull it across the floor or raise it gently in circles over your cat. For safety, always remove it from your cat completely after playtime.

Shine a small light such as a flashlight on the floor (especially in a low light area) and create circles of light for your cat to chase.

Fill a favorite toy with catnip and have fun rolling it across the floor.

Provide a tasty treasure hunt by hiding treats inside a favorite toy or in safe locations around your home.

Play hide and seek when your cat follows you and reward and treat when he/she finds you.

Provide sturdy boxes for a homemade jungle gym that leads to a favorite perch or a higher place for your cat to sit and relax.
