Trial Ordered For Ex-Con In Society Hill Assault-Robberies on Women

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A man accused of choking and robbing a number of women this past summer in the Society Hill section of the city has been held over for trial.

Willie Wyche waived his  preliminary hearing today, which means the prosecution did not get the opportunity to present any evidence it has gathered against the 39-year-old ex-convict who now faces  robbery, aggravated assault, and related charges in connection with a half-dozen vicious attacks that took place over the summer (see related stories).
"The defendant was arrested for a series of robberies and aggravated assaults that happened between July 16th and June 25th, all involving female victims," notes assistant Philadelphia DA Vince Regan.

Police say Wyche snuck up on his victims from behind and strangled them before stealing their wallets and purses.  He surrendered to authorities just days after the July 16th attack.

Wyche will be arraigned November 3rd, and Regan is hoping to take the case to trial within the next six months.
