Pulaski Day Parade Kicks Off Polish-American Heritage Month
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - October is Polish-American Heritage Month. To kick it off, dozens of Polish-American cultural groups marched in a parade on Ben Franklin Parkway, today.
Hundreds of people lined the parkway for the 78th Annual Pulaski Day Parade, to take in the view of colorful Polish costumes, music and to learn more about Polish Culture.
"The parade is one day where everybody gets together and no matter where they are from, they come out and enjoy themselves," says Michael Blichasz, president of the local chapter of the Polish-American Congress.
The Polish National Alliance, the Polish-American Cultural Museum and dozens of other groups participated to raise awareness of Polish contributions to the world.
Carolina Ciesielka, 82, has been coming to the parade for decades. "It shows what we do for everybody," Ciesielka says. "It's just a wonderful thing!"
And the kids, well, they like it too...just not the dressing up part.
