City Of Philadelphia Hosts Financial Planning Day

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – It was Financial Planning Day in the City of Philadelphia and an event at Ben Franklin High School was designed to ensure more citizens manage their money more effectively especially during this harsh economic climate.

There was free advice from financial planners on Saturday afternoon.

Mayor Michael Nutter stressed the importance of planning for the future.

"You actually might try to buy a house. You might try to buy a car. You might buy other things so financial planning is extremely important; how to manage your money."

Aaliyah says she has three good reasons to attend this conference.

"My son is in college and I have two more on their way to college...so hopefully this will help me be a better planner for it."

Reporter: "Well, it's either hit the lottery or better financial planning!"

"There you go! Basically, that's it," Aaliyah adds with a smile.

Paula Nangle, Certified Financial Planner at The Marshall Financial Group, says planners understand people's nervousness.

"It can be scary and that's why if you seek help from a professional we can help break things down into more manageable pieces."
