NHL's Winter Classic Will Be Played January 2nd At Citizens Bank Park
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - It's official -- the NHL's outdoor New Year's holiday spectacle known as the "Winter Classic" comes to Philadelphia this season.
It's ice hockey on a baseball field. The fifth Winter Classic will feature the Flyers and the New York Rangers at Citizens Bank Park.
The game will be 1pm on January 2nd, since the Eagles and Redskins play at Lincoln Financial Field on New Year's Day.
"I know the Flyers and Mr. (Ed) Snider and management have put a lot of time and effort into trying to get the game here and showcase Philadelphia and showcase the Flyers and what we're kind of all about," said Flyers captain Chris Pronger (wearing "C" uniform in photo below) today. "And this is a great venue and a great opportunity for us to do that, and I know everybody's looking forward to it."

Flyers' owner Ed Snider (at lectern in photo) says, actually, he didn't try to land the Winter Classic.
"We didn't lobby for it," he says. "The league just called us and said, 'You got it.' "
Flyers' season ticket holders will get the option to buy Winter Classic tickets. There will be a limited lottery for Phillies' season ticket holders, and there will be a public ticket sale as well -- although full ticket info hasn't been released yet.
