Reducing Salt In Your Diet

We know too much salt in the diet can raise blood pressure yet dietary salt intake in the US is on the rise. The problem is so significant. It is clear certain groups have greater risks than others, especially when it comes to heart disease.

For instance, African Americans have high rates of hypertension and cardiovascular disease. Similarly, women have a proportionally greater risk than men because women have a higher lifetime risk of stroke.

Young and middle-aged adults could benefit from reduced salt intake because of the relative importance of blood pressure elevations in younger adults without major risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
