Chester County Man Surrenders To Authorities, Charged With 100 Counts Of Child Pornography

WESTCHESTER, Pa (CBS)- Honeybrook resident George C. Niedenthal surrendered to Chester County Detectives Tuesday morning after being charged with 100 counts of sexual abuse to children.

The investigation started in 2004, when police received investigative information that Niedenthal was allegedly utilizing the internet from his home, work and other locations to possess and distribute child pornography.

Authorities allege Niedenthal used a screen name and an e-mail address to search for, download, possess and distribute images and videos of child pornography.

Investigators were granted a warrant in early May 2011 and seized evidence from his home that included an IBM ThinkPad laptop computer, a thumb drive and other various items.

While going through the evidence in August, detectives say they discovered approximately 100 images of children under the age of 18 engaged in sexual acts. Police say they also recovered data indicating that child pornography was distributed on internet websites.

Niedenthal was arraigned and committed to Chester County prison after failing to post $50,000 cash bail.

A preliminary hearing for Niedenthal is scheduled for September 16 at 9:30 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Michael J. Cabry III.

The investigation continues.
