PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Phillies have activated pitcher Joe Blanton from the disabled list after the right-hander missed 3 1-2 months with an elbow injury.

Blanton was added to the roster before the NL East-leading Phillies opened a three-game set with second-place Atlanta on Monday. He hadn’t pitched since May 16.

Blanton, who began the season as the No. 5 starter, will pitch out of the bullpen. He was 1-2 with a 5.50 ERA in six starts this season.

Blanton has made only five relief appearances in eight years in the majors.
