Philadelphia Fire Fighters Prep For 4th Annual 'Cheesesteaks For Heroes' Event
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Fire Fighters are preparing to fire up grills all for a good cause on Friday. The 4th Annual "Cheesesteaks For Heroes" event kicks off fundraising in advance of the Hero Thrill Show and all proceeds go to the fund that provides education for the children of Philadelphia police and fire fighters lost in the line of duty.
Philadelphia Fire Department Lieutenant Mike Foley runs the event, and he hopes the public will step up and buy a steak:
"We have two locations this year, 'Smoke Eaters Pub' in Northeast Philadelphia at Frankford and Sheffield and that runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. All you have to do is show up, we'll be cooking the cheesesteaks there. All you have to do is come up, it's $5 for a cheesesteak. Our second location is the Fire Fighters Union Hall at 5th Street and Willow Street and that's going from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m."
And in addition to the Fire Fighter volunteers to cook the steaks, Foley has rounded up drivers to deliver them to police and fire stations around the city:
"I've ordered about twice the amount of meat that I usually order and more rolls. I really feel the word is out and I think people are really going to come out and support us this year. The weather right now looks like 82 degrees and sunny, no reason to come out and support us."
