Positively Philadelphia: What Is Your Pet Thinking Now?

AMBLER, Pa. (CBS) -- Okay, all you budding writers, listen up!  Act II Playhouse in Ambler is running a contest, and you're invited to enter.

"It's a student writing contest," says Playhouse communications director Bill D'Agostino.   "We've titled it 'Ruff Draft,' r-u-f-f.   It's inspired by the play that's going on right now at the playhouse, which is called 'Sylvia.'  It's a love triangle between a man, his wife, and his dog."

Why this contest?

"The dog speaks lines that are what we imagine dogs would be saying if they could speak to us.  And I wanted to have an educational component to the show, and so I thought of the idea of having a writing contest where students could imagine what their pet could be saying.  So the tagline is, 'What is your pet really thinking?' Fourth grader Lindsey Goldschmidt sent in the first submission.  "It's rainy and it's gloomy, but I, Hobbs the Cat, want my owners to come home.  There's lightning and there's thunder, and I'm frightened," it begins.

How long should a contest entry be?

"No shorter than two paragraphs and no longer than two pages," D'Agostino says.

And what does the winner win?

"They win two tickets to the final performance, and the winners will have their performances read by professional actors," he says.

The contest ends Friday, September 9th, so you'd better get busy!
