Grow By Taking Gardening Classes

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The other day, a friend I hadn't seen in awhile asked, How did you learn so much about plants?' And I said, "I went to the Arboretum School of the Barnes Foundation in Merion." A longtime gardener herself, she said she was considering some courses too because there's always lots to learn. Taking a class can help you take your gardening to a new level or help you turn your hobby into a full-time job.

We're lucky around here because our area has lots of great places to learn; from regular walks and lectures at area arboretums, to in-depth courses at Longwood Gardens and a degree program at Temple Ambler.

But the Barnes Foundation classes were just right for me - one day a week which I found easy to fit into my schedule. And my class was a great mix of people - smart home gardeners along with landscaping professionals who taught me nearly as much as the fabulous faculty. And you still have time to sign up for this year's horticultural courses at the Barnes Foundation.
