Online Marketplace Aims To Spark An 'Education Revolution'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A new website encourages young professionals to share their skills, and anyone can teach or take a class.

The new program takes education out of the classroom, and you can sign up for a variety of classes at SkillShare.com – a website that bills itself as, "A community marketplace for offline classes."

"It's almost like capitalism for education.  You set a price, set a student limit and however many people want to go, buy a ticket and attend," says blogger Anna Goldfarb, one of the SkillShare.com teachers.

"A lot of young professionals are highly trained in specialized skills like Photoshop -- I mean, really it could be anything!  It could be cheese making!"

Brendan Lowry, head of Special Operations in Philadelphia with the website, says the service is catching on quickly, "We've already lined up about 60 classes through October in locations all over the city from restaurants, to cafes, to co-working spaces, to even parks."

Lowry says the coolest thing about SkillShare.com is, "That anyone can learn anything from anyone."
