Elderly Woman Attacked Inside Her Manayunk Home, Suspect At Large

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- An elderly woman from Manayunk will now think twice before she lets anyone into her house.

She was attacked inside her home on the 4000 block of Ogle Street.

The woman has lived in her neighborhood for almost fifty years. She knows everyone on her block and knows there's some renovation work being done on her street. So on Monday morning just before 8 o'clock, a man claiming to be a handyman came knocking asking for help, she believe him.

Unfortunately, that decision led to a terrifying ordeal. A man choking her with his bare hands then with a leash, demanding she complies when she couldn't.

"He was holding me like this here, saying 'Where's the money? Where's the money?' I told him, fella, I don't keep any money in the house, no way. He put it around my neck and he was going like this, pulling it up, pulling it up."

For her protection, we are not identifying the 74-year-old victim. She is nervous knowing her attacker is still on the loose.

"I've been helping all my life, I mean if somebody asked me for something, if I got it, you got it. He said I'm going to be working down the street at a house and doing some work."

He claimed he couldn't get a hold of the homeowner so he asked to use her phone.

"He pushed my face like this here"

And forced the victim upstairs where the suspect found no cash then ran out of the house, leaving the victim bruised, cut and disappointed. She calls the ordeal a harsh reality check.

"I think it's a shame. It's a darn shame people have to be afraid of something like that."

She is now hoping by sharing her story she can help someone else from falling victim.

The suspect is described as a black male in his mid to late 30s, about 5'8'' and at the time of the incident dressed in all black including a black jacket with a white stripe down the sleeves.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police.
