Academy Of Natural Sciences Plays Host To Bugfest This Weekend

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Bugfest is underway this weekend at the Academy of Natural Sciences through Sunday.

It's Beetlemania at the Academy of Natural Sciences -- and we're not talking about John, Paul, George and Ringo.

"Bugfest this year, the theme is all about beetles," says Dr. Jackie Genivesi, senior director of education at the museum.

"Bugs are important because they do a lot of different jobs. They're decomposers, there are bugs that eat other bugs and we've got things like spiders and scorpions and other beetles that help keep the world in balance."

And Bugfest was crawling with kids

"(The bugs) are really creepy!"

Reporter: "You've seen the beetles?"

"Oh yeah lots of beetles! They come in all shapes and sizes."

"I've learned that the Hercules beetle has long horns to defend himself."

Reporter: "Do you think they would make good pets?"

"No!!!!!"
