Pop-Up Art In Park Near NYC's 'Ground Zero' Pays Tribute To Memories
NEW YORK (CBS Local) -- A new temporary art installation in New York's Battery Park near the World Trade Center is paying tribute to the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks as the 10th anniversary approaches.
Located in the Garden of Remembrance and facing the water just north of the Staten Island Ferry terminal is the pop-up installation "September 11th Tenth Anniversary Reflections."

It features 10 panels, each of which represents one of the 10 years since the attacks, according to Valerie Ghent, a NYC musician who founded Feel the Music!, a NYC arts nonprofit that partnered with Tribute WTC Visitor Center on this public art project.

The "reflections" were gathered in July from people who live and work in Lower Manhattan, in several different downtown locations. Those messages and images now hang throughout the park between bamboo frame panels.
"We saw, over and over again, for many people, was that they said it opened up a door to things they may have never said before," said Ghent.
The messages are focused on peace, love and healing. Phrases include "Heal the World," "We Will Never Forget," and "May It Never Happen Again."
"The more we relate, the more we reach out, the more we touch people, the more our lives will improve, their lives will improve and the world will improve," Jim O'Shay, a local resident, said. "Hopefully, we'll avoid these kinds of tragedies going forward."
While the exhibit was scheduled to be taken down, organizers hope to make it a part of the permanent memorial.
