Transportation Funding Report Out, Corbett Response Awaited

HARRISBURG (CBS) - The ball is now in Governor Corbett's court now that his transportation funding commission has officially issued its final report.

The transportation funding commission voted on its recommendations last month – recommendations that include increasing vehicle fees and taxes on wholesale gasoline to raise new funds for roads, bridges and mass transit.

Now that the report has been officially submitted to the governor, a spokeswoman for Corbett says he'll spend several weeks reviewing it. Last month, the top Republican in the GOP-controlled Senate, Joe Scarnati, said given that they may not be popular with some, it will take 'statesmanship' to sell the panel's recommendations.

"I have a lot of faith that this secretary of transportation is going to be able to go out and articulate the message. We can help, if the will to do it is there."

However, first, a spokesman for Senate Republicans says Governor Corbett will have to spell out exactly which of the recommendations he supports.
