Authorities Suspect Discarded Cigarette As The Cause Of Chester County Fire

EAST BRADFORD TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) - Authorities in Chester County are investigating a three-alarm house fire that broke out Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters arrived at the 300 block of McIntosh Road in East Bradford Township at about 12:30 p.m. following reports of a chimney fire. Upon their arrival, crews found heavy fire coming through the roof in the center of a townhome in the Brandywine Square Development.

Police say all residents were able to evacuate the area safely. The fire was placed under control nearly an hour later. Fire officials said one possible cause to the fire may have been an improperly discarded cigarette.

The American Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter is assisting displaced residents.
