Camden County Boys and Girls Club Helping Kids Get Set For School

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) - The Camden County Boys and Girls Club has launched an initiative designed to get kids to school this fall, and keep them there.

The "Be Ready" initiative works to identify kids who are at risk for dropping out of school and then working with them to get them back on track.

Milford Liss, head of the Camden County Boys and Girls Club, says many kids in Camden and around the country want to get their education but are faced with overwhelming obstacles.

"These youngsters are looking ahead now toward high school graduation, they're looking toward college," he says.  "And what we have to do is to support them every step of the way.  Some of that is making sure they have a meal," he adds.

Some of that support, says Liss, also includes positive peer pressure, homework help, housing, and employment programs.

The "Be Ready" program goes nationwide next month.
