WILDWOOD, NJ (CBS) – Wildwood bills itself as a family friendly resort on the Jersey Shore, but suddenly, it’s a city dealing with an incident of racism.

On Wednesday morning, someone posted a sign outside Nana’s Apartments that read “Parking for whites only.” Robinson and her husband have owned the motel for eleven years, but they have never seen anything like this.

“We feel like it was disrespectful and hurtful and mean-spirited for someone to do that,” says Robinson.
The eight-bedroom motel caters to families and adults. It is not listed as a loud, animal house property by the city, so they are not sure what provoked the racism.

Police took down the sign immediately and stored it as evidence. Mayor Ernie Troiano apologized for the sign on behalf of the city.
“It’s the worst thing anybody can do to anybody,” says Troiano.
Mayor Troiano says the sign should never have been posted, especially in Wildwood.
“We never had problems with this neighborhood. For someone to do that, that’s a sick person,” says Troiano.
While police try to figure out who posted the sign, the Robinsons are trying to move on, so they can focus on the rest of the summer and their retirement.
