Black Bear Spotted Along Route 202

NEW HOPE, Pa. (CBS) - Some residents near New Hope in Bucks County got a surprise today, when a bear took a stroll along the 202 corridor. The game commission is still looking for the bruin.

Solebury Township Police say the first of several calls came in just after 8 a.m., when a resident got an eyeful of a black bear (like the one pictured), first in a residential area and later this morning, near a winery.

Pennsylvania Game Commission's Cheryl Trewella says bear sightings are common at this time of year, "When the sows, which are the females, are going into their breeding season, what they'll usually do is drive off those year-and-a-half-old cubs that have been with them, particularly the young males." Who are now trying to find a place to live.

Kind of appropriate then, where the wandering bear was last seen: in the parking lot of a real estate company, no doubt looking for a place that's just right.

If you see a bear, Trewella says to stay clear of it, and call the game commission.
