PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Starting tonight, eight restaurants in Philadelphia’s western suburbs are serving up ‘Mondays without Meat.’  If you’re a vegetarian — or even if you’re not — you might really like what’s for dinner.

“Our menus have wide appeal: we’re not just talking about Caesar salads and potato soup.”

Sarah Lockard is CEO of, which is behind the effort. She says talk on Twitter tipped her off to an underserved customer base — and these chefs have worked up a lot more than lettuce and lentils.

“They’ve got some very cool, creative appetizers and entrees, and some great deals to choose from.”

Even if you’re not ready to turn in your tenderloin for tofu, she says you might be surprised at the taste, “It’s great for those who do follow a vegetarian diet, but also for people who want to eat healthier. We do have all these wonderful fresh ingredients from the local farms that these restaurants source.”
