Delaware Man In Critical Condition After Jumping From Rope Swing

BRANDYWINE, Del. (AP) -- Authorities say a 20-year-old man was in critical condition after he jumped into the Brandywine River from a rope swing and failed to resurface.

Cpl. Peter Small of the New Castle County paramedics says bystanders were able to locate the man and pull him out of water after he jumped in Thursday afternoon. Small says a nearby officer from the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control administered CPR on the man until paramedics arrived. He says paramedics and emergency medical technicians were able to restore the man's heartbeat.

The man was taken by helicopter to Christiana Hospital.
