Police: Cheltenham Man Confesses To Murdering Wife, With Children Nearby

CHELTENHAM, Pa. (CBS) - A 28-year-old Cheltenham man is behind bars in Montgomery County without bail, charged with murdering the mother of his two young children, who were just feet away when she was killed, early Tuesday morning.

Police were called to the Lynnwood Gardens Apartments in Elkins Park where they found 26-year-old Olivia Thompson bleeding from a large wound to the abdomen. She later died at the hospital. Several hours later, Clive Thompson showed up at Cheltenham police and, according to prosecutors, told them he was there to turn himself in and said he was sorry he did it.

Prosecutor Kevin Steele says it appears there was some sort of argument in the apartment, "The defendant's choice of a murder weapon was a butcher's knife out of the butcher's block. It was a large knife and it made an enormous wound in the victim."

Police recovered the knife. They say it appears Thompson forced his way into the bedroom where the victim's body was found, just a few feet away from their eight and four-year-old children.
