South Jersey Infant Scalded, Parents Facing Assault & Drug Charges

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) -- Authorities say a 3-week-old infant was scalded after being splashed with hot water that his parents were throwing at each other during an argument in their southern New Jersey apartment.

The infant sustained first- and second-degree burns to its chest, shoulder and left arm in the incident, which occurred around 4 p.m. Friday. The child was later flown by helicopter to St. Christopher's Hospital in Philadelphia, but further details on its condition were not disclosed.

Both members of the Atlantic County couple, identified only as an 18-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman from Hamilton Township, were charged with aggravated assault. Authorities also charged the father with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute after they found multiple bags of the drug and drug paraphernalia in the couple's apartment.
