17 Injured In Single-Car Crash In Delaware

NEWARK, Del. (CBS) – Delaware State Police say 17 people were injured after a van they were riding in flipped over several times early Wednesday morning.

The accident happened at about 6:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-95 south of Delaware Route 141 in Churchman's Marsh.

According to investigators, the driver of the 1997 Ford Club Wagon, identified as 20-year-old Elisaul C. Miranda, somehow lost control of the van, causing it to overturn several times.

Investigators believe that 17 people in the van, which was en-route to a job site in Chesapeake City, MD, were injured in the crash and were transported to the Christiana Hospital.

The exact number of injured has not been confirmed at this point due to several of the individuals leaving the hospital prior to being treated.

None of the injuries appear to be life-threatening at this time.

Miranda has been charged with having no valid driver's license, no proof of insurance and an unregistered motor vehicle.

The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
