Hundreds Participate In Delaware Valley Stroke Council's 5K Walk-Run On Sunday

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A cloudy sky and a cool morning breeze greeted hundreds of people who out Sunday for the annual Dr. Howard Mazur Memorial Strides For Stroke 5K walk and run.

The top female finisher with a time of 21-17 was Victoria English from Philadelphia. However the real winner at the Strides For Stroke are the stroke survivors.
Getting up and walking, that was my big thing. I wanted to walk. I wanted to walk, I had to get back up," said Sharon Zander who had a stroke last May:

Zander got up and walked the entire 5K, with her thirteen-year-old nephew Ben Kaplan who flew in from Colorado to be her personal cheerleader.

Kaplan said he had to be there "…because I love her so much."

"He called me every night in the hospital," said Zander.

And her life has changed, in some ways, for the better. "I've stopped smoking, I'm eating better, I finally made it back to work in September , move a little slower do things a little different but I'm still here."

Still here with a smile on her face and a big hug for her devoted nephew Ben.
