Authorities Investigate Reports Of Explosion In Northeast Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Authorities in Philadelphia are investigating several reports of an explosion that took place a little before 10 p.m. Friday evening.

Fire officials and police responded to Fairdale and Knights roads in northeast Philadelphia after several residents claimed they heard and felt a loud explosion. Although no visible smoke or fire has been located, residents reported they felt their homes and streets shake. A number of those residents called Eyewitness News to find out what happened.

The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency reports that the incident does not appear to have been caused by an earthquake. Additionally, there are no reports of power outages or gas leaks at this time.

The situation was placed under control at about 10:45 p.m., but the investigation continues.
